About
I am Mischelle Alexander-Best, a former judge of Division XI of General
Sessions Criminal Court in Shelby County. For five years, I presided over
Domestic Violence Court as judge. I am a lifelong community activist. I
graduated from Treadwell High School in 1979. I earned a Bachelor of Science and
Juris Doctorate from Memphis State University (University of Memphis). I am
married to Mr. Gerald Best and mother of two adult sons. My youngest son,
Matthew, has been called to ministry and is a minister in the Church of God in
Christ. I am member of Pentecostal Temple COGIC where I am a Sunday school
teacher and former departmental superintendent. I have taught Sunday school for
almost thirty years at Pentecostal Temple.
I am a member of various organizations including being a board member of the C.H. Mason Bible College,
Memphis Bar Association, National Association of Women Attorneys, NAACP, Women
of Achievement, League of Women Voters and TWIGS-Lemonhead.
I am also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority. I am an advisor member of Noble
Healer and a board member of Global Leadership Academy.
I currently am a public defender but have served as a pro-bono attorney for Delta Commission on Aging
and Memphis Area Legal Services. Further I am an adjunct faculty member at
Lemoyne-Owen College and Strayer University where I teach Business Law or any
other legal courses that are being offered.
I am a strong advocate for civil rights, victim rights, the rights of others and insuring that our justice system
is being run fairly and impartially. I have nineteen years in the legal profession with eight of those being a jurist/judge
in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.
